¶ Self Prime Settings
Self‑Prime Settings (image 1.2) configure the pump station for self‑priming pumps (e.g., certain centrifugal or diaphragm models). These pumps require a defined priming period before water reaches the pump head and is discharged. Use this section to set the priming timers and related automation parameters so the controller correctly sequences priming, verifies successful prime, and protects equipment during startup.
¶ Settings
Self‑Prime settings can be applied to any pump that requires priming—settings are configurable per pump. Since station pumps may differ (some self‑priming, others not), configure this screen for each pump that needs priming to ensure correct sequencing and protection across the station.
¶ Configure Self Priming
Configure which pumps require self‑priming (image 1.3), then set the following parameters:
- Threshold (image 1.4): the torque value the PLC monitors to detect water in the pump volute. A dry volute shows significantly lower torque than one filled with water.
- Self‑Prime Overrun Delay (image 1.4): the maximum time allotted for the pump to achieve prime.
Operation: when a priming cycle starts, the PLC monitors torque for the Threshold value within the Overrun Delay. If the threshold is reached before the timer expires, priming is successful and the pump continues running. If the timer elapses without reaching the threshold, the system faults on "Self‑Prime Overrun Delay" and requires a manual reset before another priming attempt.
These settings must be configured per pump — they are not one‑size‑fits‑all. Adjust each parameter to match the specific pump model and station design for reliable priming performance.
